How to Apply Perfume Oil So It Lasts Longer

Perfume oil is designed to be applied differently from traditional spray fragrance. A few intentional swipes in the right places can help the scent develop beautifully without over applying.

Start with pulse points. The wrists, sides of the neck, collarbone, and behind the ears are classic choices because these areas are naturally warm. That warmth can help fragrance become more perceptible as you move throughout the day.

For a roll-on, you do not need to coat a large area. Apply a small amount directly to the skin and allow it to settle naturally. Avoid aggressively rubbing your wrists together after application. Friction is unlikely to “destroy” a fragrance, but rubbing can spread the oil away from the area where you intended it to sit and change the way the opening is experienced.

One of the simplest longevity tricks is also one of the most overlooked: apply fragrance to moisturized skin. Very dry skin can make scent seem to disappear more quickly. An unscented moisturizer, or a body product that complements your fragrance, creates a more emollient surface for the oil.

Layering can also extend the overall scent experience. A scented body lotion or bo dy oil can create a soft base, while a concentrated perfume oil adds definition at the pulse points. The goal is not necessarily to make fragrance louder. It is to create a more continuous scent experience.

Give perfume oil time after applying it. Oil-based fragrances can unfold more slowly than alcohol-based sprays. Riddle Original, for example, is intentionally base-note focused and can be extremely subtle at first. Instead of repeatedly adding more because you cannot immediately smell it, wear it for a while and notice the small wafts that appear as your skin warms.

Finally, remember that your nose adapts. If you wear the same scent regularly, you may become less aware of it even while other people can still smell it. Before assuming your fragrance has disappeared, ask someone else.

With perfume oil, more is rarely the goal. Strategic placement, hydrated skin, and a little patience usually create the best experience.

Please be aware that the scented oils in this category are base note only formulas. They work with your own body chemistry (hormones, diet, health, genetics, pheromones, etc.) to act as an accelerant to your natural scent; we call these pheromone oils. These oils are enhancers, and because you're often nose-blind to your own scent, you may not smell these on yourself. However, our number one review on these scents is how many compliments people receive when wearing them.

People who love these scents are usually sensitive to smells and love their subtle nature. They typically suffer from fragrance-related headaches and don't from these. They don't want to smell overpowering to people around them. They use these scents as enhancers with other fragrances they wear.

We ask that you consider all of this information when purchasing these oils, as we do not accept returns for not being able to smell your pheromone products.

Returns / Exchanges / Refunds

Due to the nature of our products, we do not allow returns. We also do not process refunds. Please consider this when purchasing Riddle Oil products. We strongly encourage all first-time customers to purchase the Sample Kit, which includes all seven signature scents. This kit comes with a $10 off code to apply towards your next full-size purchase.

We allow exchanges on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to our customer service team to request an exchange. We never allow exchanges on the Sample Kit or Sample Kit + Gift Card products.

Damages

If your product has been damaged in shipping or has a manufacturing defect, email us within one week of the delivery date. Please include your name, order number, images, and a description of the damage.

Please note that we do not allow refunds for damaged products; you can choose for the product to be replaced or store credit issued. Again, we ask that if you commit to a product by placing an order, you are willing to work with us to correct any issues by getting you the correct product.

We will not be able to assist anyone who does not include images of their damage.

Order Adjustments

If you placed an order and soon after, items in your order go on sale, if your order was placed within 48 hours of our sale, you can reach out to us and request your order be price adjusted.

Holiday sales from 11/24-1/5 are not eligible for adjustments since this period will contain many different deals, days apart from each other.

If you purchased before a BOGO sale and your order has already been fulfilled, your order is not eligible for an adjustment.

Returned Shipments

If your order was returned to us due to an incorrect address given at checkout, you will be charged for the reshipment of the product. We will only reship the order one time from the initial order shipment.

International customers will also be charged for the reshipment of your order. If international customers do not want to pay for reshipment, there will be a 20% restocking fee of the total of the order; the remainder of the total will be refunded to the customer, less the initial shipping cost.
